12 Shahed drones shot down overnight in south. Ukrainian Forces discussed aftermath in Odesa
Air Defense Forces in southern Ukraine have shot down 12 Shahed kamikaze drones. As a result of another Russian attack, there was a casualty in Odesa, where a drone hit a residential building, according to the Defense Forces of southern Ukraine.
Repelling a drone and missile attack
Military officials noted that on Friday evening, the enemy directed UAVs of the Shahed-131/136 type from the Black Sea waters. The combat drones performed complex maneuvers over coastal settlements and into the depths of the country, reaching the central regions.
"Air defense units in our operational zone shot down 12 kamikaze drones: 2 over the Mykolaiv region, 5 each over the Kirovohrad region and the Odesa region," the statement said.
Additionally, alongside the drone attack, Russian terrorists simultaneously used guided aviation missiles Kh-59 from a tactical aviation aircraft from the Azov Sea waters.
"2 missiles were destroyed by air defense forces in the Kirovohrad region. The fate of the aircraft is being clarified," the Southern Defense Forces noted.
Consequences in Odesa
The military officials reported that one of the enemy's shot-down drones crashed into a residential area of Odesa, causing destruction and a fire in a typical courtyard.
"Although the fire was promptly extinguished, one of the apartments was destroyed. The owner died there, and his wife was rescued from under the rubble by rescuers; she was hospitalized in critical condition. Two more residents of the neighboring apartment were taken to the hospital with burns and other injuries," the statement said.

The National Police press service reported that law enforcement officials are documenting the consequences of the enemy's attack on Odesa.
In addition, the State Emergency Service continues to clear the rubble.
Drone attack on Odesa in the evening of February 23
Earlier, it was reported that around half past ten in the evening, Russian occupiers struck a kamikaze drone at a residential building in Odesa. Local authorities later reported at least two casualties from the enemy attack, both in critical condition. Later, it became known about the fatality.
Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, stated that all relevant services are working at the scene. Additionally, during a national TV broadcast, the official described the condition of those affected by the latest Russian attack on the city. According to him, three individuals are in critical condition:
- a 1962-born woman with 70% body burns and severe burn shock,
- her daughter, born in 1993, also suffered severe burns over 10% of her body surface and multiple bone fractures,
- another injured, a 72-year-old woman who was trapped under rubble for almost two hours, sustained thermal burns over 40% of her body surface and limb fractures.
