US seeks to force Russia into peace with Ukraine – NATO envoy explains how

The United States plans to pressure Russia into a ceasefire in Ukraine, primarily through arms sales.
This was stated by US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, according to his post on X and an interview with WHO13News.
"President Trump is a peacemaker, and as I told WHO13 News today, by selling US weapons to our NATO Allies, we plan to pressure Russia back to the negotiating table and secure a lasting ceasefire," Whitaker said.
However, it's important to note that during the broadcast, the ambassador expressed hope that if the US actively sells weapons, it could deter Russia.
During the interview, the host pointed out that the US is sending and selling arms to NATO allies, who then transfer them to Ukraine. She asked why this is important now, to which Whitaker responded that it helps avoid weapons shortages.
"Obviously, the US makes the most sophisticated weapons and armaments on the planet. Ukraine's and their own forces likes having those weapons - it allows them to defend themselves from, you know, the Russian onslaught. And at the same time, I think President Trump has been pretty clear that this war in Ukraine is not going to be settled on the battlefield. Ultimately, it's got to be negotiated, and there needs to be a peace," the ambassador added.
He also made it clear that arms sales to allies are "a great financial opportunity for the US," which will benefit Americans, particularly taxpayers.
"Obviously, it's going to be a value of the weapons that we're selling to our NATO allies, that are then being provided to Ukraine. It's a windfall, it just takes off the backs of American taxpayers, who, you know, spent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Ukraine in this war," he concluded.
In the same interview, the US ambassador to NATO said that Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff would be in Moscow this weekend, meaning today.
He suggested the visit may yield some results.
