Geneva round of talks: Kyrylo Budanov heads Ukrainian delegation

The Ukrainian delegation has departed for Geneva for another round of negotiations aimed at ending the war. The consultations will take place on February 17–18 with mediation from the United States and will focus on a ceasefire and prisoner exchanges, according to a post by the head of the Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov.

The Ukrainian negotiating team, led by Kyrylo Budanov, has departed for Geneva, where a new round of consultations on ending the war will take place on February 17–18.
The trip was officially confirmed by the head of the Presidential Office, who posted a photo near a train on his channel, noting that he and his colleagues are discussing lessons of history and strategic conclusions for protecting Ukraine’s interests during the journey.
Format and participants of talks
This stage is being held in a trilateral format with the participation of envoys linked to Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
They are also conducting parallel consultations with other regional actors, coordinating positions and discussing possible steps to stabilize the situation.
Key topics of meeting
The main items on the agenda include mechanisms for monitoring a ceasefire regime and organizing further prisoner exchanges between the parties to the conflict.
Despite cautious optimism, participants maintain a realistic approach, acknowledging that reaching a comprehensive peace agreement in the near term remains a difficult task.
The Geneva consultations are aimed at shaping a safe and controlled process for ending hostilities, as well as ensuring the protection of Ukraine’s interests in the negotiations.
According to Russian media sources, Russia will send a delegation of at least 15 people to the talks, including Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the next trilateral round of negotiations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine will take place on February 17–18 in Geneva, with the Russian delegation led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
