Hungary is questioning its potential accession to the eurozone, warning of risks for the country and emphasizing the need for reforms within the European Union in the coming years, according to a publication by the international news outlet Clash Report.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has firmly rejected the idea of his country joining the eurozone, saying the European Union is facing "serious problems" and "falling apart," while adopting the euro would "tie Hungary’s fate to a sinking ship."

Orban stressed that to remain viable, the EU needs a "radical transformation" within the next two years. Otherwise, he warned, the bloc risks becoming "a fast-moving chapter in history" or merely "a fleeting page."

According to the prime minister, joining the eurozone under current conditions could make Hungary dependent on the EU’s unstable economic situation. He argued that the country must carefully assess all risks before linking its financial and economic future to a union that, in his view, requires deep reform.

Earlier, Orban said Europe should not fear Russia, claiming that the EU surpasses it in defense capability and that the real threats to the bloc are economic stagnation and declining competitiveness.

He also asserted that Russia has "already won" the war against Ukraine but remains militarily, economically, and demographically weak, posing no threat to Hungary.
