On the night of September 20, unidentified drones targeted the Russian city of Saratov. The attack triggered a fire in the city, according to Russian channels.

According to SHOT, at least five to seven explosions were heard in Saratov between 1:15 and 1:30 AM. Residents reported hearing the sound of engines in the sky, air raid sirens, and seeing flashes.

At the same time, footage circulated on social media showing a fire breaking out in the city. The exact source of the blaze remains unclear. Several channels speculated that an oil refinery might have been affected, but there has been no reliable confirmation of this so far.

SHOT also reported that at 12:46 AM, the Cover plan was activated at Saratov airport. Residents of the nearby city of Engels likewise reported hearing explosions.

Drone attack on Saratov oil refinery

This is not the first time the facility has come under attack. On the night of August 16, the Saratov oil refinery was once again targeted by drones, with explosions and a fire reported in the area.

The following morning, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that the refinery had been struck, noting that the extent of the damage was still being assessed. The refinery is known for producing gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, several grades of bitumen, vacuum gas oil, technical sulfur, and other products—more than 20 types of petroleum products in total.
