Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made this statement during a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to Reuters.
Fidan highlighted the risks that a protracted war poses to the region and the international order, and discussed energy security issues with Lavrov.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the ministers also discussed cooperation between Russia and Türkiye in the energy sector, focusing in particular on the security of the Blue Stream and Turkish Stream gas pipelines.
Peace talks
Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia aimed at ending the war have stalled, as the US has shifted its focus to the Middle East, where it launched a special operation against Iran on February 28.
Even before the war in Iran began, media outlets reported that Trump might withdraw from the negotiation process regarding Ukraine, and given the current situation in the Middle East, the American leader himself has raised this possibility.
European Council President António Costa stated that Europe needs to prepare for the possibility that the US will indeed withdraw from the negotiation process regarding the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump had previously assured that the issue of ending Russia's war against Ukraine remains very high on his list of priorities.
