Will Russia capture Kurakhove before Trump's inauguration: Expert opinion
Russian forces may capture Kurakhove in the Donetsk region before or even by the inauguration of the elected US President Donald Trump, as the city is already 50-60% encircled, states military expert and former Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) officer Ivan Stupak in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
The expert noted that according to DeepState, the city of Kurakhove is currently 50-60% surrounded by Russian forces.
"I personally assume that by the New Year, possibly within the next 30 days, we may have to withdraw from there, because the threat is serious and significant," Stupak believes.
Situation near Kurakhove
The Kurakhove direction remains one of the most difficult areas of the front. Russian troops attempt to advance there daily, with their goal being to capture the city of Kurakhove.
According to a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces are gradually advancing near Kurakhove and trying to level the front line in the western part of the Donetsk region.
Recently, it was reported that Russian forces damaged the dam of the Kurakhove Reservoir.
Military expert Oleksandr Musiienko believes that the Russian army damaged the Kurakhove Reservoir dam for several reasons. One of them is an attempt by the enemy to use the landscape to their advantage.
