Why Putin will not agree to European peacekeepers in Ukraine: Expert's explanation
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not agree to the deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine. For him, this option is even worse than Ukraine's invitation to NATO, states Pavlo Lakiichuk, head of security programs at the Strategia XXI Globalistics Center, in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
As Lakiichuk reminded, the Kremlin leader has repeatedly emphasized that he started the war against Ukraine to prevent NATO troops from being deployed near Russia's borders. And now, he is being offered the placement of European peacekeepers along Russia's borders.
"This is impossible, 99.9% this will not happen in the near future," the expert believes.
In his opinion, Putin does not want such a scenario.
"How can peacekeepers be deployed? It's correctly stated that first there should be a ceasefire, and then peacekeepers. I am convinced that this will not happen in the near future. More serious changes lie ahead, and European peacekeepers are much more significant for Ukraine in NATO than its invitation to the Alliance," he added.
European peacekeepers in Ukraine
It was reported in the media that, in the event of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, European countries may send peacekeepers to Ukrainian territory. In such a case, they would be responsible for monitoring the ceasefire.
Specifically, the issue of peacekeepers was reportedly discussed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
According to the Polish Prime Minister, Warsaw currently has no plans to send troops to Ukraine.
