Russia has accused Ukraine of allegedly "preparing a terrorist attack" against diplomats in the EU. Intelligence called it a "new episode" and explained why Russia needed this fake claim, Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Defense Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, shared this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

"After being exposed and suffering a catastrophic loss of credibility in civilized countries, Russian propaganda outlets have handed over the task of producing fake news to Russian intelligence services. These agencies now fabricate blatantly absurd stories daily in an attempt to destabilize Ukraine and its security and defense forces," he said.

According to Yusov, just recently, this very structure claimed there were alleged "threats" and the likelihood of so-called "terrorist attacks" against leaders of Russia's non-systemic opposition in the EU, "and today, we see a new episode."

"These are undoubtedly fakes. At the same time, they pose a direct threat to destabilizing the situation in other countries. Putin’s intelligence services are well-versed in staging various provocations and terrorist attacks, including against their own citizens. The entire world understands the absurdity of these statements, but propaganda objectives demand action, even if it is completely indefensible," the intelligence officer noted.

When asked whether Russia might actually attempt such attacks, Yusov suggested that it should not be framed in terms of "can" or "cannot."

"The Russian regime today disregards the sovereignty of other states, wages an aggressive war, and conducts hybrid warfare and hostile operations on the territory of third countries. Russian intelligence services operate with extreme aggression in multiple directions. This is a threat that democratic nations and Ukraine’s partners are well aware of," he stated.

Russia’s fake claim about an alleged 'terrorist attack' in the EU

As reported earlier, Russia has launched a new disinformation campaign against Ukraine, this time accusing it of allegedly "preparing terrorist attacks" in European countries.

Notably, Russia consistently fabricates false claims and blames Ukraine for them. Disinformation often targets, among others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

For instance, in January of this year, Russia spread a new fake story about President Zelenskyy, falsely claiming that he had purchased a villa on the so-called Billionaires' Island. However, this is untrue.
