Ukraine is actively advancing its missile program. The Neptune cruise missiles already proved their effectiveness on the battlefield and demonstrated a range exceeding 1,000 km, said Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.

"This is good news. It's a great missile, I’ve seen it myself. It has significant potential," Kostenko noted.

He emphasized that beyond the long-range and short-range Neptune missiles, there are other variants of the missile that are either already in use or will soon be used against the enemy.

He also said that the Neptune was developed by the Luch Design Bureau under the leadership of chief designer Oleh Korostyliov.

"This system is now being produced in various modifications, both anti-ship and land-based versions, that cause damage to the enemy," he added.

According to him, the primary task now is to scale up production and establish these missiles as a deterrent against Russian aggression.

What is known about the long-range Neptune missile

Back in December 2023, reports emerged that Ukraine was developing long-range Neptune missiles. The project remained classified, while efforts were also underway to modernize Buk and S-300 air defense systems.

The exact specifications of the long-range Neptune remain unknown. However, in August 2023, reports suggested that only a few dozen of these missiles had been produced.

Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the long-range Neptune had successfully passed testing and was used in combat.

Additionally, during Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations in August 2024, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine had used a new Palianytsia missile drone for the first time, highlighting it as a product of Ukrainian engineers.
