Pace of Russian advancement in Pokrovsk direction slows down: Expert explains reasons

The pace of advancement of Russian troops in the Pokrovsk direction, Donetsk region, has slowed down. One of the reasons is the effective defensive actions of Ukrainian forces in this section of the front, states military expert and former spokesperson of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladyslav Seleznov, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
"Recently, the pace of the Russian army's advance (in the Pokrovsk direction) has somewhat slowed down, but the primary reason for all these processes is the effective defensive actions of Ukraine's Defense Forces in this section of the front," Seleznov said.
According to him, the enemy is suffering such irreparable losses that it is no longer capable of advancing at its previous pace. Recently, the Russian forces' advancement has been limited to just a few hundred meters per day, which is significantly less than it was just a few weeks ago.
"And the key point is that the enemy is now forced to deploy its operational reserves — the very ones it had planned to use during the battles directly in the areas of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk. However, they are compelled to use these resources earlier just to maintain some hope of advancing around these two settlements," the expert noted.
However, in his opinion, the Russian forces' plans are "gradually turning into a big flop."
"The enemy physically no longer has enough resources to move forward. The Ukrainian army, as part of its strategic defense, occasionally conducts certain counteroffensive actions that pose serious threats to the Russian army's forward assault units. Therefore, I wouldn't risk saying that Pokrovsk or Myrnohrad is 'doomed,'" Seleznov added.
Battles for Pokrovsk
In recent months, the Russian forces have been trying to break through the defenses in the Pokrovsk direction. This area is one of the most challenging sections of the front.
Recently, Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia operational-strategic group of forces, stated that Russian troops have changed their tactics in the offensive on Pokrovsk. Instead of launching frontal assaults on the city, they are now attempting to encircle it.
Trehubov also noted that about half of all combat engagements are taking place in the Pokrovsk direction.
According to recent reports from the National Guard, Russian forces have advanced towards the southern flank of Pokrovsk, where they are attacking the positions of the Defense Forces.
