Military suggests where Russia might send North Korean soldiers
Russia will not send North Korean troops directly into battle with the Ukrainian army at the front. Part of them will be transferred to the Kursk region, and the rest to the occupied territories of Ukraine, stated Yurii Fedorenko, commander of the Achilles battalion of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Ataman Sirko, in an interview with the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
"Many believe that North Korean soldiers will be immediately thrown into combat on Ukrainian territory. I think some of them will be deployed in the Kursk region, while the rest will form a second line of defense on the occupied territories," said Fedorenko.
According to him, the Russian forces need time to mobilize, train, and deploy North Korean soldiers into battle.
"Therefore, the soldiers from North Korea are a resource that allows for the establishment of a second line of defense and frees up soldiers with basic training. This is almost two combat brigades. After that, they will be sent to the section of the front where the enemy needs results right here, right now," noted the Ukrainian commander.
North Korean soldiers in Russia
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, about 10,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia, with 8,000 of them already deployed to the Kursk region.
At the same time, Ukrainian intelligence warned that 12,000 North Korean soldiers had been sent to Russia.
Recently, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported the first clash between Ukrainian defenders and North Korean soldiers.
He stated that this confrontation signifies North Korea's official involvement in the war against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Minister emphasized that, so far, the participation of North Korean troops in combat is not systematic.
This information has been confirmed by the US as well.
