US President Donald Trump’s tariffs have become a powerful tool of pressure on Russia and are "saving" Ukraine, stated Valerii Klochok, head of the Center for Civic Analytics Vezha and chairman of the charitable foundation Nova Doroha, in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

“There is another very serious tool of pressure on Russia - Trump’s trade war. Due to circumstances, it is saving us," Klochok believes.

He noted that Trump’s decision to impose additional tariffs has already weakened China, caused a shift in global markets, led to a significant drop in oil prices, and triggered economic recession in Russia.

"These are all factors exerting real pressure on the Kremlin, pushing them toward making decisions," the expert added.

He also emphasized that ending a war instantly is unrealistic, using the end of World War II as an example.

“Let’s remember how World War II ended - Germany signed its surrender document on May 8, 1945, but the war officially concluded in September. That shows the process takes time. It won’t be instantaneous here either,” Klochok noted.

Trump’s tariffs

US President Donald Trump recently imposed additional tariffs on more than 180 countries.

The worst hit was China, which actively responded to such US measures. As a result, Washington imposed 145% tariffs on imports of Chinese goods.

This trade war between the two countries has led to a sharp decline in global oil prices.
