Expert outlines Ukraine's ideal outcome for Kursk operation
Russia has to redeploy its forces from Ukraine to the Kursk region, and it will continue to do so. This is the desired scenario for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Russian region, stated Oleksandr Musiienko, head of the Center for Military-Legal Studies.
"Clearly, there are risks that the enemy will strengthen its presence there (in the Kursk region - ed.), redeploy reinforcements, and counterattack Ukrainian positions. However, I would also point out two additional facts. Firstly, Ukraine has been preparing for this. And I would say that, to some extent, this might actually be a desirable scenario for us," Musiienko noted.
According to him, although Russia does not want to admit it, it had to redeploy some of its troops from Ukraine to the Kursk region.
"They have sent over 30,000 troops there, including from Donetsk. And more will continue to arrive," the expert added.
He emphasized that this is beneficial for Ukraine because "we will move into a phase of containing Russian units".
"And another fact I would point out is part of the response in Zelenskyy's interview, where he says, 'I wouldn't want to reveal all the circumstances that might be... The element of surprise is success.' This is very interesting. So, perhaps some additional actions may be planned, and we will see them," Musiienko noted.
Operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region
Since the beginning of August, Ukrainian troops have been conducting an offensive in the Kursk region.
Recently, Commander-in-Chief of Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi announced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had advanced another 2 kilometers in the Kursk region.
Since the beginning of the operation, Ukraine has taken control of more than 100 settlements in the Kursk region.
According to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia has redeployed 60,000 troops from Ukraine to the Kursk region.
He also said that Ukraine would hold the seized territories of Russia until it forces Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table.
