Expert on war and Trump inauguration: No white flag or victory on January 20
The war between Russia and Ukraine will not end on January 20, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration. Hostilities are likely to continue, stated Pavlo Lakiichuk, head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies Strategy XXI, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
Lakiichuk noted that recent actions by both Ukraine and Russia have been increasingly linked to Trump’s inauguration. However, it remains unclear what will happen during his presidency.
"Believe me, no white flag or victory flag will be raised on January 20. We must prepare for the continuation of the war. How long it will last - who knows," he said.
He emphasized that Ukrainian officials are still working closely with US President Joe Biden and his team. If the US continues to provide military aid once a week or every two weeks at the beginning of next year, it could create a safety cushion for Ukraine lasting several months.
According to Lakiichuk, Russia's offensive in the east depends not on Biden or Trump but on whether Russia has sufficient reserves.
"If they have the forces, believe me, no one will care about an inauguration across the ocean," he stated.
Trump’s inauguration
Donald Trump will officially become the new president of the United States.
During his campaign, Trump promised that if elected, he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours.
Recently, he reiterated that Russia's war against Ukraine would be his top foreign policy priority. According to him, this problem needs to be resolved quickly.
