Are there air defense systems that can destroy 100% of targets? Expert's response
No air defense system can destroy 100% of targets. Even the Patriot missile system can intercept a maximum of 70% of incoming missiles, stated military expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces reserve major Oleksii Hetman in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
The expert explained that air defense systems have specific capabilities outlined in the technical specifications of any missile defense system.
According to him, no air defense system can destroy 100% of targets.
"Even the Patriot system, when targeting with a single missile, has a 70% success rate. If there’s a massive airstrike, that probability drops to 40-60%. That’s why 2-3 missiles are launched to increase the likelihood of hitting the target. With 2-3 missiles, the probability exceeds 90%, but it has never reached 100%," Hetman noted.
Ukraine's air defense
During the full-scale war with Russia, Ukraine has created a unique air defense system - no other country in the world has such a variety of air defense systems. Its effectiveness is evident in intercepting a wide range of threats, from kamikaze drones to ballistic missiles.
