Second Ukrainian strike in one week on Ryazan refinery: Why it matters

The Ryazan Oil Refinery is one of the four largest refineries in Russia. Therefore, strikes on the facility are crucial for disrupting the occupiers' logistics, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems.
According to the military, JSC Ryazan Oil Refining Company is the largest refinery in the Central Federal District, with a processing capacity of 17.1–18.8 million tons of oil per year.
The refinery produces a wide range of products: gasoline (A-92, A-95, A-98, A-100), diesel fuel, aviation fuel TS-1, liquefied gases, bitumen, and fuel oils.
Annually, the refinery produces about 840,000 tons of aviation kerosene TS-1, which accounts for 8.4% of the total production of this product in Russia.
"The loss of such a resource is a significant blow to the logistics and support of Russian military operations," the Unmanned Systems Forces confirm.
Attacks on the Ryazan Refinery
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Ryazan Refinery twice in one week. On the night of January 26, the facilities of the Ryazan Oil Refining Company were attacked. The company is involved in supporting the Russian military presence in Ukraine.
Local residents heard about a dozen explosions within 15 minutes. After the attack, explosions and a fire were reported in the target area.
It is worth noting that the first strike on the Ryazan Refinery took place on the night of January 24. During that attack, at least three tanks caught fire. A key workshop was also engulfed in flames.
Previously, two other attacks on the Ryazan Refinery were reported in March and May 2024.
