On June 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Rousopoulos, during his visit to Strasbourg, according to the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked PACE for its consistent support of Ukraine amid Russian aggression and highlighted the Assembly’s special role in promoting the idea of establishing a Special Tribunal to hold those responsible for the crime of aggression against Ukraine accountable.

Zelenskyy emphasized that it is crucial to ensure justice, specifically through a judicial process in The Hague.

The President also thanked PACE for consistently addressing the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine during every session of the Assembly. He emphasized the importance of the adopted resolutions, particularly those focused on protecting children affected by the war and calling for increased accountability for Russia.

Separately, Zelenskyy invited PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos to visit Ukraine on an official visit.

During his earlier address to PACE, Zelenskyy stated that international justice awaits Russian President Vladimir Putin and other war criminals.

Special tribunal against Russia

On June 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset signed an agreement to establish a Special Tribunal to address the crime of aggression against Ukraine. The tribunal will have the status of an international body.
