Zelenskyy: We are developing mechanism to enable Poland to destroy Russian missiles over Ukraine President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy (president.gov.ua)

Ukraine and Poland are working on a mechanism under which Polish air defense will shoot down Russian missiles and drones, says President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk.

"We are grateful for the special arrangements reflected in the security agreement. They are provided for in developing a mechanism to shoot down Russian missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace," Zelenskyy said.

He clarifies that this applies only to those air targets fired in the direction of Poland.

Zelenskyy expressed hope that the teams of the Defense Ministries of Ukraine and Poland, as well as the military, would work out the rapid implementation of this point of the agreement.

Background

Russian troops have repeatedly launched missiles toward Poland. They even violated Polish airspace, but the air defense system did not shoot them down.

After one such incident, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis called on Poland to shoot down such missiles. Because if they do nothing, Russia may regard it as encouragement.

Zelenskyy is now on a visit to Warsaw. He has already signed an agreement on security cooperation between the two countries.
