Some countries may want Ukraine and Russia to be left one-on-one after a ceasefire is reached. Such signals have already been observed, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists.

"You see how difficult it is to even take the first step — a ceasefire. Imagine how much harder it will be when it comes to the issues of territory, sanctions — everyone understands that. And that’s why there are signals that, perhaps, after an agreement on a ceasefire, some countries will want us and the Russians to be left one-on-one. These are the signals," Zelenskyy said in response to a question about whether the US would withdraw from the negotiations.

At the same time, the president emphasized that Europe would remain involved, "because there are many related issues."

Regarding the possibility of the United States withdrawing from the negotiation process, Zelenskyy said: "It seems to me that they do have such thoughts in the US, because indeed everything is very difficult."

US threats to withdraw from negotiations

As a reminder, earlier US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington may withdraw from the negotiation process regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine if there is no progress.

US President Donald Trump has also spoken about such a possibility, noting that the United States could exit the talks if one of the parties creates obstacles to achieving peace.

Recently, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that the United States would change its approach to the negotiations and would no longer act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the statement. Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi said that he urgently contacted Tammy Bruce. He was told that the comment was made in the context of a similar remark she had made earlier.
