Zelenskyy warns of new Russian attacks on energy sector as the world eyes Middle East

Russia plans to continue attacking Ukraine’s energy sector. Data on the threats have been shared with the IAEA and Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
He said he held a meeting today with military officials, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and government representatives. The meeting focused on protecting Ukraine’s infrastructure from Russian strikes.
Zelenskyy stressed that despite all promises to the United States and others seeking peace, Russia keeps hitting civilian energy facilities in Ukraine.
"This terror is becoming increasingly insidious. There are no signs that anyone in Moscow is preparing to end the war or take diplomacy seriously," the statement said.
Zelenskyy said intelligence has information on Russia's plans. Currently, Russian attacks may be less visible to the world due to the situation in the Middle East.
"Russia is planning further attacks on our energy sector — attacks that may be less visible to the world right now because all eyes are on the situation in the Middle East. Our partners’ intelligence services have the relevant data," the Ukrainian President emphasized.
Zelenskyy also stated that the information has been shared with US officials and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"Specific information on the Russian threat to Ukraine's nuclear power infrastructure has been passed by Ukraine's Minister of Energy to the IAEA and Mr. Witkoff. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine has conveyed information to his US counterpart," he said.
Additionally, the president stated that the meeting focused on the development of Russia's strike capabilities. Tasks for improving Ukraine's air defense were set.
"There were also reports from the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Chief of the General Staff. The details remain classified, but the outcomes of today’s discussions must have a tangible impact on the situation," the post said.
Zelenskyy also received a report on eliminating the aftermath of the strike in the Poltava region. Tasks were assigned to the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Energy, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Energy defense
Recently, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is developing new interceptor drones. According to the president, they will help protect energy facilities from Russian attacks.
The president said that Ukraine defends and builds, which requires significant funding that is never fully sufficient. He added that, above all, protection means air defense systems. He refused to specify which systems Ukraine has, where they are located, or which energy facilities they protect.
Zelenskyy added that once Russia learns where Ukraine's air defense systems are located, the enemy attacks them. As a result, Ukraine adjusts its air defense routes.
