Russia must understand that if it threatens blackouts in Kyiv, it will face blackouts in Moscow. Ukraine will not be weak and will respond to Russian attacks on its energy sector, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy advised Russians to understand the difference between civilized nations and weak nations.

"Russia must clearly know that civilized countries differ from wild ones in that they never strike first and are not aggressors. But this does not mean they are weak. There is no need to show weakness," he said.

The Ukrainian President also promised that in response to threats of blackouts in Kyiv, Russians could face blackouts in Moscow. He indicated that US President Donald Trump fully supports him on this issue.

"If they threaten a blackout in the capital of Ukraine, the Kremlin should know there will be a blackout in the capital of Russia. This, in short, reflects some of the points we discussed with the President (Donald Trump -ed.)," Zelenskyy said.

Threat to energy infrastructure

Russian forces have spent three consecutive years, starting in the fall of 2022, trying to strike Ukraine's energy system ahead of the heating season. They carry out these attacks hoping to provoke a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Despite massive strikes on generation, distribution, gas, and thermal infrastructure, all of Russia's plans have failed. Ukraine's energy system has held up and is being restored, and the country has started retaliating against attacks on its energy infrastructure.

This fall, energy attacks are likely to resume. CEO of Naftogaz Serhii Koretskyi believes Russia will launch large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities before and during the winter heating season. The Center for Countering Disinformation reports the same, noting that Russian leader-liar Vladimir Putin is already preparing a so-called informational alibi for these attacks.

At the same time, Ukraine will strike back and target Russian energy infrastructure, President Zelenskyy said. He added that his position is shared and supported by Trump.
