Everyone in Europe needs good-neighborly, equal, and mutually beneficial relations built on respect, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy unveils plan to reset ties with Poland

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on Ukraine's policy toward Poland.

"Poland provided significant support to Ukraine after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, and we are grateful for that," he said.

Zelenskyy stressed that defending Ukraine's independence directly strengthens Poland's independence as well.

"The security challenges facing Europe today can only be addressed through cooperation, particularly among the free nations of our region," he said.

Zelenskyy's proposals

According to the president, several key steps will follow the meeting:

  • Decisions on the diplomatic track;
  • Opening all archives of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) and Foreign Intelligence Service related to the tragic events in Volhynia during the 20th century;
  • Issuing a substantial number of additional permits for search and exhumation work, while increasing capacity for such efforts together with the Polish side;
  • Discussing possible formats for expanding public dialogue between Ukraine and Poland;
  • An agreement with Oleksandr Alfiorov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, to expand the institute's capabilities.

"Oleksandr will prepare and present systemic proposals, while relevant government officials and the parliamentary committee will consider increasing financial and other support for the institute," Zelenskyy said.

On July 17, Zelenskyy also met with Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, a military technology expert and former adviser to Ukraine's defense minister. The two discussed the most pressing technological aspects of Ukraine's defense.

The president also said that Ukraine is preparing a special meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, which will include frontline corps commanders and leading domestic weapons manufacturers.
