Zelenskyy: 'Ukraine must join the EU, and it will'

Ukraine must join the European Union, and everything necessary is being done for this, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during his speech at the Warsaw Security Forum.
"Ukraine must join the EU, and it will," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, everything necessary is being done for this.
"We are doing everything required, and it is important that Ukraine’s accession is not delayed by the national politics of this or that country. This is not about what we have already gone through in history. It is about what we all must avoid, and what we must avoid is any dependence on Russia," he noted, hinting at Hungary.
Ukraine’s EU accession process
Ukraine applied for EU membership just a few days after the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.
In December 2023, the European Council decided to start negotiations on Ukraine’s EU accession.
In June 2024, the European Commission positively assessed the progress of EU integration reforms in Ukraine and Moldova. Brussels approved a negotiation framework for Ukraine, which defines the format and procedure of accession talks.
However, Hungary and Slovakia began blocking the accession negotiations, putting forward various conditions. The latest demand was to stop attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline infrastructure, which both countries receive energy resources from Russia.
Meanwhile, Lithuania proposed its own plan for Ukraine’s accession negotiations without Hungary’s consent.
