Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Austria, with the visit likely to take place in mid-June, according to Kronen Zeitung.

According to the outlet, the Ukrainian head of state is expected to arrive in Vienna on June 16.

He is scheduled to meet with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and members of the government, including ministers from all political parties — among them Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who previously visited Kyiv.

Reports of the planned visit have already sparked a strong reaction from Austria's far-right leader Herbert Kickl. He expressed concern that Zelenskyy's trip "makes Austria a potential target in the event of escalation."

"This visit is yet another link in the chain of violations of neutrality and misleading neutrality policies in recent years. As a neutral country, Austria should act as a peacemaker and mediator, not as a party to the war," he stated.

Austria's potential role in a peacekeeping mission

Austria's Federal Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner previously stated that her country could potentially take part in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

However, Tanner emphasized that Austria's participation would depend on the mandate of the mission.
