Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will discuss the idea of an Easter ceasefire with Russia with US officials, he said while addressing European ministers.
The President recalled that just yesterday, on March 30, he had proposed to Moscow a ceasefire for the Easter holidays. Kyiv expects that the United States will support this initiative.
"We are waiting for a response from Russia. Tomorrow I will speak with the American team, including on this issue. We hope for results. Everyone needs results," he stressed.
Easter ceasefire
On March 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire with Russia during the Easter holidays.
The head of state assured that in 2–3 days of a truce, Russia would not be able to strengthen anything, so such an initiative should not affect the situation on the front.
After that, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Ukraine had not presented a clear ceasefire proposal.
He also demanded that the Ukrainian President accept Russia’s ultimatums and "move toward peace, not a ceasefire."
Notably, last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin already announced an Easter ceasefire. The very next day after that statement, it became known that Moscow had violated the truce.
