Nearly four years after the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not even been brought to court. Moreover, he has managed to stop Europe when it comes to frozen Russian assets, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In his speech, Zelenskyy referenced the movie Groundhog Day, noting that no one would want to live repeating the same thing year after year.
"Just last year here in Davos, I ended my speech with the words: 'Europe needs to know how to defend itself.' A year has passed, and nothing has changed. We are still in a situation where I must say the same words," the President said.
According to Zelenskyy, every year brings something new, and now everyone is focused on the issue of Greenland. It has become clear that most leaders do not know what to do with this issue and are simply waiting for America to lose interest in it.
"President Trump led an operation in Venezuela, and Maduro was arrested. There were different opinions about it, but the fact remains: Maduro is on trial in New York. Sorry, but Putin is not on trial. This is the fourth year of the biggest war in Europe since World War II, and the man who started it is not only free, he is still fighting for his frozen money in Europe," the Ukrainian President emphasized.
The Ukrainian leader also noted that the Kremlin head has even had some success on the issue of assets, as he managed to stop Europe. As a result, Europe refused to confiscate Russian property in favor of Ukraine, with the decision being blocked.
Arrest warrant for Putin
In 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.
The ICC made this decision because Putin is implicated in the mass abduction of Ukrainian children.
Countries that have ratified the Rome Statute are obliged to arrest Putin. Nevertheless, the Kremlin leader was able to visit Mongolia without any problems, as the country ignored the ICC’s decision.
