Ukraine is engaged in security dialogue with many countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Additionally, the groundwork is being laid for deeper security agreements in Europe, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In particular, the head of state discussed the findings of a report by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov following the first phase of cooperation with partners in the Middle East and Gulf region.
"Importantly, Ukraine’s military expertise is recognized, and the combat experience of our warriors is becoming a strong component of partners’ defense. Every nation deserves security, and we are ready to provide prompt and effective support to those who support our state and independence," Zelenskyy emphasizes.
Defense in sky and at sea
The President notes that this concerns defense against strikes and other types of drones in the sky, as well as addressing security challenges at sea.
He emphasizes that Ukraine’s experience in the Black Sea can be applied to other globally important sea lanes.
"At this stage, Ukraine is in communication on security matters with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye, Syria, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. We have received requests for engagement with Iraq," the President's statement reads.
Zelenskyy adds that today they discussed the potential for cooperation with the countries of the Caucasus, as well as East and Southeast Asia.
"There are also substantive requests from countries in Africa. We are preparing the basis for deeper security agreements in Europe as well – we expect to achieve results this very week. I have instructed the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to finalize drafts of several new security agreements and prepare them for signing," he says.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that allies on the alliance’s eastern flank and Gulf countries are defending themselves against drones thanks to Ukrainian technology. He emphasized that these developments did not exist just a year ago.
In late March, Zelenskyy signed agreements with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar regarding protection against Iranian drones. He reported that additional requests had also been received from Bahrain and Oman.
