President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to US President Donald Trump. The letter contains new proposals for cooperation in the defense industry and trade.

Today in Rome, Zelenskyy met with US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Information about the letter was published in the report on this meeting.

Special attention was given to the implementation of the Ukraine–US economic partnership agreement. The Head of State noted that he had sent a letter to President Trump with new proposals for cooperation in the defense industry and trade sectors," the statement said.

Earlier, Zelenskyy discussed several topics with Vance and Rubio. These included negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul, sanctions against Russia, defense cooperation, and joint pressure on Moscow.

"Pressure is needed against Russia until they are eager to stop the war. And, of course, we talked about our joint steps to achieve a just and durable peace," Zelenskyy noted.

US-Ukraine minerals deal

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that on the night of May 1, Ukraine and the US signed an economic cooperation agreement, also known as the minerals deal. The signing took place in Washington.

On May 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the document. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also signed the relevant law.

Then, on May 13, both countries signed two additional technical agreements. These were necessary for the minerals deal to come into force.
