The Ukrainian army continues to conduct active defense operations in the Kursk and Belgorod regions of Russia, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He informed that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the situation at the front. The situation remains difficult in many areas.

As of the middle of this day, almost 70 attacks on Ukrainian positions have already taken place at the front. The fighting is still ongoing and the enemy continues to try to attack.

“The largest number of combat engagements take place in the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and Kursk directions. Our forces continue active defensive operations in designated areas of the Kursk and Belgorod regions,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the situation at the front and the real activity of the Russian army prove that the existing world pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine is not enough. It will soon be 50 days since Ukraine agreed to a complete ceasefire.

“Soon, it will be fifty days since Russia began ignoring the United States' proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire – a proposal Ukraine accepted back on March 11. More tangible pressure on Russia is needed to create more opportunities for real diplomacy. I thank everyone in the world who stands with Ukraine,” the president summarized.

Kursk region

Yesterday, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the completion of the operation to liberate the Kursk region.

According to him, on April 26, Russian troops allegedly entered the last settlement in the region, the village of Gornal near the border with Ukraine. However, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied this information yesterday, saying that Russia is just wishful thinking. According to the reports and as Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already confirmed, the fighting in Kursk continues.
