In Russia, they claimed the alleged liberation of the Kursk region. The General Staff explained what the situation in this direction really is, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The defensive operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in designated areas in the Kursk region continues. The operational situation is difficult, but our units continue to hold designated positions and perform tasks as assigned," the message says.

At the same time, according to the General Staff, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are inflicting effective fire damage on the enemy with all types of weapons, including those employing active defense tactics.

"Since the beginning of the day, in the operational zone of the Kursk group of troops, five enemy assault actions have been repelled, and another such combat clash is currently ongoing. The threat of encirclement of our units is absent," the commentary states.

The General Staff emphasized that the statements of the enemy leadership about the "defeat" of the Ukrainian group of troops are nothing but a propaganda ploy and a desire to pass wishful thinking off as reality.

"Active actions of our troops in designated areas of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation also continue," the military added.

What Putin said

The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, listened to a report from the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, and announced the alleged "completion" of the operation to "liberate" the Kursk region from Ukrainian troops.

According to him, allegedly on April 26, Russian troops occupied the last settlement of the region — the village of Hornal near the border with Ukraine.

In addition, Russia publicly recognized for the first time the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine. They are fighting against Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the Kursk region.
