President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready for mirror steps in response to the Easter truce announced by Russia, according to his Telegram.

Zelenskyy's reaction

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine had repeatedly proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays and will now act accordingly.

"People need an Easter without threats and real progress toward peace, and Russia has a chance not to return to strikes even after Easter," the president said.

Earlier, the Kremlin announced that Vladimir Putin had ordered a halt to hostilities on all fronts from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12 — in connection with Orthodox Easter.

He has already issued corresponding orders to his Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff.

At the end of March, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv was ready for an Easter truce with Russia. In his opinion, even a two- or three-day pause in hostilities would not allow the enemy to strengthen its positions, so it would have no impact on the front line.

In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the time that he had allegedly not seen a clear proposal for a truce from Ukraine. And today, April 9, he added that Vladimir Putin had allegedly not yet made a decision regarding the Easter pause.
