Zelenskyy says Ukraine develops systems to strike deep into Russia's territory
Besides drones, Ukraine is currently working on other systems to strike deep into Russian territory, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference.
"Currently, everyone is thinking about how to preserve energy, and that is true. Preserving our energy partially, I'll be honest with you, depends on the fact that we have delivered powerful strikes on Russia's generating energy facilities. And now we can talk with our partners about solving energy security issues. Because this has become very important for everyone," the president said.
Zelenskyy added that previously, even strikes on Russian territory with Ukrainian-made weapons were critically viewed by Ukraine's Western partners due to fears of escalation, but now the issue of strikes with Ukrainian weapons is no longer raised.
When asked about Ukraine's development of its own long-range weapons besides drones, he replied: "Besides drones, yes, we are working on other systems that will allow us to be more long-range."
Strikes on Russian territory
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been waging a brutal war against Ukraine. Western countries, aiming to help the Ukrainian people, are providing not only humanitarian aid but also weapons. However, their use is strictly limited: they should not be used to strike Russian territory.
In early July, some politicians in the US and Europe called for lifting this restriction, believing it would give the Ukrainian Armed Forces more defensive capabilities.
However, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War say that the US has already allowed Ukraine to attack only those targets on Russian territory that are preparing or are already striking Ukrainian territory.
Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in the Belgorod region, which were being used to shell Kharkiv.
