Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that Russia has been ignoring the proposal for a ceasefire for nearly 50 days. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the current international pressure.

Today, Zelenskyy heard a report from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. The Commander-in-Chief informed the president about the current situation on the front lines. According to the president, the situation remains difficult in many areas.

"By midday alone, there have already been nearly 70 Russian assaults on our positions. Fighting continues. The occupier continues its offensive attempts. I am grateful to every brigade and all our warriors who are defending Ukrainian positions and demonstrating the resilience our country so urgently needs," the president emphasized.

He also noted that the fiercest battles took place in the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and Russia's Kursk directions.

"Our forces continue active defensive operations in designated areas of the Kursk and Belgorod regions," he added.

At the same time, based on the results of the combat operations, the president expressed special gratitude to:

  • The 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, which has been carrying out its combat tasks exceptionally well in the Pokrovsk direction;
  • The 59th Separate Assault Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces;
  • The 225th and 425th Separate Assault Regiments;
  • The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade;
  • The 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.

Greater pressure on Russia is needed

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine will continue to defend its independence and territory in battle.

"The situation on the frontline and the real activity of the Russian army prove that the current global pressure on Russia is insufficient to bring this war to an end. Soon, it will be fifty days since Russia began ignoring the United States' proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire," he stressed.

The president also reminded that Ukraine accepted this proposal on March 11.

"More tangible pressure on Russia is needed to create more opportunities for real diplomacy. I thank everyone in the world who stands with Ukraine," he concluded.

Frontline situation

According to the General Staff of Ukraine, Russia has sharply increased its assaults near Pokrovsk. For more details about the situation along all front lines, read RBC-Ukraine's report.

However, it should be noted that, over the past day, April 26, Russia's losses exceeded a thousand military personnel. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces destroyed more than 300 pieces of enemy equipment.

In the past day, aviation, missile forces, and artillery from Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeted four enemy personnel concentrations, a UAV control point, and two artillery systems.
