Zelenskyy says his meeting with Trump being prepared after inauguration
Kyiv and Washington are already working on a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which will take place after the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, according to the President of Ukraine.
“Of course, after the inauguration, our teams are already working on the content and format of the upcoming meeting. We will discuss key issues there, but I will not go into details, it is too early,” the President said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine's priority is to end the war on fair terms. At the same time, the country needs to be sure that Russia will not re-invade, and therefore it is important to receive strong security guarantees. Today, the strategic guarantees are:
- accession to the European Union (EU) and NATO;
- support of the army with weapons.
US election
Despite the fact that several months have passed since the presidential election in the United States, Trump is still the newly elected leader. The inauguration, according to the US Constitution, will take place on January 20, or on January 21 if the previous day falls on a Sunday.
Meanwhile, Trump's advisors believe that Ukraine and Russia can reach a peace agreement in the coming months.
