During his visit to Washington, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will hold closed-door meetings with US defense and energy corporations and address Congress ahead of his expected talks with Donald Trump, according to an exclusive from Suspilne.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is starting his working visit to Washington with a series of private meetings that could shape the future trajectory of defense and energy cooperation between Kyiv and the US.

According to sources familiar with the trip’s preparation, the visit’s schedule has been arranged to make the most of the time ahead of Zelenskyy’s key negotiations with US President Donald Trump.

Meetings with US defense giants

The schedule includes separate talks with major American defense companies that may become part of a potential Mega Deal - a package of contracts for the supply of air defense systems, precision artillery, and ATACMS missiles. The Ukrainian delegation, which includes representatives from the Presidential Office, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is expected to present a proposal to expand military-technical cooperation.

Energy talks

Another part of the visit is dedicated to restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy plans to meet with the leadership of energy corporations that could join projects to modernize Ukraine’s power grid and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure against Russian attacks ahead of winter.

Address to Congress and political consultations

Before meeting with Trump, talks are scheduled in the US Congress, where the Ukrainian side will have an opportunity to present its position on future military aid and the status of frozen defense contracts. Zelenskyy is expected to meet with key lawmakers who shape US policy toward Ukraine.

Preparation for talks with Trump

According to sources, the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump will be the highlight of the visit. Kyiv sees it as an opportunity to secure political guarantees of support and accelerate the signing of defense agreements, which, according to the Ukrainian side, could shorten the duration of the war.

A brief interaction with journalists is also expected, though an official media briefing with both presidents has not yet been confirmed.

Ukrainian delegation’s visit to the US

An expanded Ukrainian government delegation is already in the US, laying the groundwork for the presidential meeting on October 17 and negotiating several key areas of cooperation.

In particular, in Washington, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss strengthening the partnership and ensuring long-term peace.
