Zelenskyy's Office working on Ukrainian-Hungarian presidents meeting arrangements
Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak held a phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, on Thursday, December 28th, reports Ukrainian official on X.
Yermak states that they discussed the future meeting between the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Following the conversation between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Viktor Orban, we are working on organizing a meeting between the two leaders in the near future," Yermak writes.
Hungary's position
Last week, Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary accepted an invitation from Ukraine's leader, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for a bilateral meeting.
Orban's meeting with Zelenskyy will mark the first official bilateral meeting between the two leaders since the beginning of the conflict.
Previously, Hungary threatened to block Ukraine's entry into the EU. However, on December 14th, during the EU leaders' summit, a decision was made to commence negotiations regarding Ukraine's accession.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated last week that he never discussed ceasing fire against Russia with Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Zelenskyy mentioned having questions for Orban regarding Hungary's blockade of Ukraine's EU accession. During their meeting in Argentina, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Viktor Orban to name at least one reason for blocking Ukraine's EU accession.
