Russia used the statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán about a "Christmas ceasefire" to prepare for another missile strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, states Ukraine's presidential advisor on communications, Dmytro Lytvyn, in a comment to BBC Ukraine.

Lytvyn noted that Hungary did not inform Ukraine about Orbán's conversation with Putin or the proposal for a "Christmas ceasefire."

"Right now, we see that Mr. Orban’s PR stunt was simply used by Moscow to cover up preparations for another missile strike on our energy infrastructure. Russian missiles even came dangerously close to EU borders again," he emphasized.

Zelenskyy's advisor pointed out that by focusing on flashy headlines, Hungary's prime minister ultimately helped Moscow with its new attack.

He added that Ukraine is constantly working with all partners to coordinate efforts to exert pressure on Russia in order to achieve "peace with reliable guarantees."

Orban's statement about the 'Christmas ceasefire'

Recently, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán cynically responded to Ukraine's criticism regarding his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Hungarian leader, he supposedly offered Russia and Ukraine a "Christmas ceasefire."

"At the end of Hungary's EU presidency, we made new efforts for peace. We made a proposal for a Christmas ceasefire and a major prisoner exchange. How sad it is that President Zelenskyy today clearly rejected and excluded this. We did what we could!" Orbán wrote on Facebook.

However, as noted by Ukraine's presidential advisor on communications, Dmytro Lytvyn, as always, the Hungarian side did not discuss anything with Ukraine.
