Zelenskyy: Russians aim to push Ukrainian forces out of Kursk and enter Sumy region
Russia plans not only to push Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region but also to advance into the Sumy region. North Korean soldiers may fight alongside the Russian troops on Ukrainian territory, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview for Kyodo News.
"Their task (of the Russian forces - ed.) is to push us out and then enter the Sumy region. This entire group, including North Korean soldiers, will operate according to this plan," said the Ukrainian president.
He added that for the Russian President, the Kursk direction is so important that he personally contacts the command in the Kursk region and assures them that "the fate of the special military operation depends on their success."
"That's why it was very important for him that North Korea strengthened this direction," emphasized Zelenskyy.
North Korean soldiers in Kursk region
It was reported back in October that North Korea sent soldiers to the Kursk region to assist Russia in the war.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov noted that there were clashes between North Korean troops and Ukrainian defenders.
President Zelenskyy recently confirmed that there are wounded and killed among North Korean soldiers.
According to media rumors, Ukraine may have eliminated around 500 North Korean soldiers in a missile strike on the Kursk region.
