Zelenskyy: Russia provoked one of biggest threats to global stability
Russia's blockade of the Black Sea has led to one of the biggest threats to global stability. But Ukraine is amenable to the Russian blockade, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a press conference following the results of the Grain from Ukraine International Summit.
"Due to Russia's aggression in the Black Sea, one of the biggest threats to global stability in decades has arisen, precisely from the point of view of food supply," Zelenskyy says.
The President added that the Russian blockade of the Black Sea has led to price fluctuations and a physical food shortage on the markets. This is especially true for countries that depend on grain imports.
"We don't just export our food. We united the countries of the world to attract the appropriate funds to help those who are most affected by food shortages. In the first year of the Grain from Ukraine initiative, we managed to accumulate 180 million dollars, and about 30 participants joined the initiative", adds the head of state.
Russian blockade of the sea
In July 2023, Russia announced that it was withdrawing from the grain agreement. At the same time, the Russian army began shelling Ukrainian ports and grain infrastructure in Ukraine.
Ukraine has opened temporary corridors for merchant vessels in the Black Sea. The routes were primarily intended for the departure of civilian ships that had been in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the war.
In recent months, Ukraine managed to break through the Russian blockade of the Black Sea. A number of ships left Ukrainian ports, exporting grain and other foodstuffs.
