The head of state of Ukraine said that this is the second time he has heard information about alleged plans to announce the date of elections and a referendum in Ukraine on February 24.
"I have spoken many times about elections — we hold elections when all the necessary security guarantees are in place," Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to him, the issue of elections is raised by "certain partners." Ukraine itself has never brought up this issue. However, the country is ready for such a process.
"It’s very simple to do — establish a ceasefire, and there will be elections. In other words, this is a security issue," the head of state said.
The president also noted that the United States does not threaten Ukraine by withholding security guarantees and does not link them to the question of elections.
Elections in Ukraine
The issue of presidential elections in Ukraine was raised a few months ago by the US President Donald Trump.
In response, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that he is ready to hold elections during the war. To do this, Ukrainian legislation would need to be amended. At the same time, he set a condition for partners — to ensure a ceasefire during the election period.
Today, February 11, the Financial Times spread rumors that Zelenskyy might announce the election date on February 24.
A source from RBC-Ukraine noted that elections are not planned to be announced, as the security needed to hold them has not been ensured.
