President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will travel to New York for the UN General Assembly. He will speak with US leader Donald Trump about security guarantees for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy announced this during a conversation with journalists on September 19.

He noted that a summit on the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia will also take place. So far, 38 delegations are ready to participate in the summit.

"There will also be the Crimea Platform. We expect about three dozen countries to take part as well, in such a broad format. There will be a large number of bilateral meetings. Business, technology, defense, mineral-deal. All of this will be combined into a major economic meeting," Zelenskyy said.

According to the head of state, there will likely be a meeting between the first ladies of Ukraine and the United States on humanitarian issues related to children.

Talks with Trump

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that in New York he will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine with Trump.

"We have prepared the foundation for security guarantees, which Europe is ready to support, taking into account that the United States will be by our side. We held many discussions, there was dialogue at various levels, including between the leadership of our armies and general staffs with Europeans and Americans," the president said.

Zelenskyy recalled that there was a meeting between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the US president. At that meeting, it was agreed which issues Zelenskyy and Trump will discuss during their bilateral meeting in New York.

"I would like to get for myself precisely these signals — how close we are to understanding that the security guarantees from all our partners will be exactly the ones we need," Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy's visit to New York

As reported earlier by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will lead the Ukrainian delegation at the UN General Assembly in New York.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also announced that US President Donald Trump is likely to meet with Zelenskyy in the near future in New York, where leaders will gather for the UN General Assembly.

As a reminder, the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly will last from September 23 to 29.
