Russian President Vladimir Putin wants his soldiers to carry out several offensive operations. Only after that might he agree to a full ceasefire, according to a press conference by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the president, Putin did not expect Ukraine to agree to a full ceasefire with Russia. The Kremin leader is "playing a different game."

"What does Putin want? I would really like Trump to hear and see this. Putin wants to carry out several offensive operations: continuing in the east, in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy directions. He will try to do this to exert maximum pressure on Ukraine. When will this happen? He will attempt all this in the coming months. He wants to advance as far as possible into our territory so that at some point, he can push for a ceasefire with ultimatums for Ukraine," Zelenskyy explained.

The president clarified that the Kremlin leader seeks to secure the most advantageous position to apply maximum pressure on Ukraine. That is why US strength is needed in this matter.

Putin refused a full ceasefire

Today, March 18, US President Donald Trump discussed a full ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Instead of agreeing, the Kremlin leader set conditions under which he would be willing to accept such a truce.

Putin also reportedly agreed to halt strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Putin is preparing new attacks on the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
