Zelenskyy refused to discuss question on firing US ambassador
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declined to discuss the dismissal of Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova in the United States. During an interview with Fox News he stated that he would only address this issue with the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.
"I am the president of Ukraine and I can discuss our ambassadors only with the speaker of my country. I can't discuss this with Speaker Johnson — with all due respect," the president stated.
Zelenskyy noted that during his meeting with US presidential candidate Donald Trump, the latter did not raise the issue of the Ukrainian president's trip to Pennsylvania to a defense plant.
The head of state added that he had been to Pennsylvania and Utah, and these visits were not related to the US elections. Zelenskyy emphasized that he does not want Ukraine to be drawn into the US electoral process.
Scandal with Markarova
It is worth mentioning that US House Speaker Mike Johnson complained to Volodymyr Zelenskyy about Ukraine’s ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova. Johnson demands the diplomat's dismissal due to alleged interference in the elections.
This issue arose from Zelenskyy's visit to a factory in Pennsylvania, which was organized by Markarova. Johnson was displeased that the Ukrainian president was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party of the United States.
Additionally, Johnson did not meet with Zelenskyy during his visit to the US, stating that he was unable to schedule a meeting due to his busy schedule.
