US President Donald Trump’s remarks that the US does not need Ukrainian help in countering Shahed drones are "rhetoric," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to Ukrinform.
"Rhetoric is rhetoric. The main thing is that we know what we are doing," Zelenskyy said while commenting on Trump’s statement.
The Ukrainian President also thanked the American leader for the opportunity to purchase weapons under the PURL program.
According to Zelenskyy, this mechanism could allow Ukraine to buy both HIMARS systems and missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
What Trump said
Earlier today, March 13, US President Donald Trump, responding to a question about whether Ukraine is helping the United States defend against drones, said that Americans do not need such assistance.
He added that the United States has the best drones in the world.
Trump made the statement just days after Zelenskyy said Ukraine had sent experts along with interceptor drones to Jordan to help defend US military bases.
After the start of the US-Israeli operation against Iran, one of the main challenges for the US military and Gulf countries has been Shahed attack drones.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Saudi oil giant is already negotiating with Ukrainian companies to purchase interceptor drones.
