Zelenskyy reacts to adoption of law on e-declarations without important amendment President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy (Vitalii Nosach, RBC-Ukraine)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will consult with the minister before making a decision on the law regarding the restoration of electronic declaration in Ukraine, according to his statement at a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

The president was asked whether he would sign the law on e-declarations in the version it was voted on in the parliament.

"I must first consult with Stefanishyna (Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration) and then decide whether to sign or veto," Zelenskyy replied.

Law on e-declarations

In 2022, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention stated that officials were not required to submit declarations during a state of war. However, G7 states repeatedly called on the Ukrainian government to resume the income declaration for members of parliament and officials.

Zelenskyy also demanded that the MPs pass a law, which is one of the criteria for Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) supported the restoration of e-declarations but failed to pass the main amendment on the disclosure of declarations. Therefore, the register will stay closed, and information about the officials' assets will remain non-public for another year if Zelenskyy signs the law in this format.

The head of the Servant of the People faction, Davyd Arakhamia, explained why the declarations were not made public immediately.
