Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with Fox News, congratulated US President Donald Trump on reaching a peace agreement for the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas.

Zelenskyy said he praised Trump for the success in Gaza. In response, the US President told him he had hoped to stop Putin before a peace deal was reached in the Middle East.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the importance of the first phase of the Gaza peace plan, which included a ceasefire. He said it gives hope that the Russian regime could also be pressured into a ceasefire in Ukraine.

"Of course, it gives signals for us and hope that with such pressure, what President Trump used in the Middle East to make peace, and I hope that he will use the same instruments even more to pressure Putin to stop his war in Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

Peace agreement on Gaza

In early October, Trump unveiled a plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas. The plan consisted of 20 points.

On October 6, indirect talks between Israel and Hamas began in Egypt. Representatives from Egypt, the US, and Qatar served as mediators.

Later, Israel approved the first phase of the agreement. It includes a ceasefire, partial withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the release of hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians held by Israel.

Trump is scheduled to speak before the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, on Monday, October 13. He will also attend a peace ceremony for Gaza in Egypt. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already called it a "remarkable victory."
