Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said US President Donald Trump’s view of Russia’s war against Ukraine changed after meeting with the Ukrainian side in New York.

He made the remarks at a press conference following talks with Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declined to disclose details of his private talks with Donald Trump after the US leader posted on Truth Social that Ukraine could regain all its territories and "perhaps go even further."

Asked what prompted the shift in Trump’s stance, Zelenskyy told reporters that it was his dialogue with President Trump and that he wanted it to remain between them.

Pressed by journalists on whether Trump’s message was an attempt to shift responsibility for Ukraine’s victory onto Europe, Zelenskyy replied: "My impression was good of the conversation, and I was positive about understanding. I can’t, I’m not president of the United States. I can’t tell you that President Trump will do everything what we want or what we need. I don’t know. But he was looking positively on the topics what we shared and on influence these topics on their way to peace, and on real deep meaning of all these cases what we shared."

The two presidents met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23. Ahead of the talks, Zelenskyy had announced that Ukrainian forces had liberated several hundred square kilometers of territory and captured a significant number of Russian troops.

Zelenskyy also noted that Trump had come to trust him more than Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying Moscow’s leader had previously provided Trump with information that was "far from reality."
