Zelenskyy on threat of war freezing: No pressure from partners yet, no corresponding signals
There is currently no pressure from partners to cease Ukraine's defense. Allies are not yet ready to officially send corresponding signals, according to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a press conference with the President of Lithuania.
"There is no pressure from partners to stop our defense. I wouldn't say stopping the fighting, after all, it is our defense. Stopping our just defense and ending our struggle. There is no pressure on this matter. So far, there is none," said the head of state.
Zelenskyy added that he had heard and read about Russia's threat of freezing the war in the media. However, he emphasized that partners have not officially provided such signals.
"There are different voices. I heard, read, and know in the media. There are different voices, and there are different discussions. I think that partners are not yet officially ready to give us corresponding signals. At least, I haven't personally heard them," said the president.
Media statements on war freezing
In late December, The New York Times claimed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin supposedly signaled through diplomatic channels that he was willing to freeze the war in Ukraine.
Also, according to unconfirmed information, Putin sent proposals for a ceasefire a year earlier, in the fall of 2022.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, stated that Western countries are not asking Ukraine to negotiate with Russia to freeze the war. The Office of the President of Ukraine called on the world to stop living in illusions – Putin will continue to wage war and kill.
