Zelenskyy on mobilization: 'It is not just a matter of soldiers. It's about all of us'
Mobilization is not only a matter of calling new soldiers to the front. The whole world needs to mobilize efforts to help Ukraine defeat Russia, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Economist.
The president noted that the kind of "mobilization of Ukrainian society and of the world" that existed at the beginning of the full-scale war is not present today. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to change this situation.
"Mobilization is not just a matter of soldiers going to the front. It is about all of us. It is the mobilization of all efforts. This is the only way to protect our state and de-occupy our land. Let’s be honest, we have switched to domestic politics," stated the head of state.
He added that if the focus on domestic politics continues, it will be necessary "to call elections, change the law, the constitution."
Problems with Western aid to Ukraine
Recall that the United States is running out of funds allocated for financing aid to Ukraine. U.S. President Joe Biden has asked Congress to allocate over $100 billion for national security needs, with over $60 billion earmarked for new funding for Ukraine.
This initiative has not been approved by Congress yet. Currently, Democrats and Republicans are trying to find a compromise regarding the protection of the U.S. borders from migrants, for which funds are also supposed to be included in the request.
Meanwhile, the European Union failed to approve the provision of €50 billion to Ukraine by 2027. Hungary vetoed the initiative. A new summit will take place on February 1, where EU leaders will reconsider this issue.
